Legal English is Natural Fluency’s community for people who work in law and need legal English: lawyers, law students, translators and professors.

Who founded it

The community was founded by Victor Hart, who founded the Natural Language Institute in Brasília in January 2003 and later Natural Fluency. Born in Brazil to American parents, Victor holds a law degree from the University of Brasília (UnB) and works as an auditor at Brazil’s Federal Court of Accounts (TCU).

What you’ll find

  • A Guide built around a legal theme. The first one covers legal English’s false friends, the words that look like Portuguese and mean something else.
  • Classes with Daniel, our AI teacher for legal English. A step in the Guide opens a class with him on the theme.
  • Colleagues from the legal world practicing together: the community feed, Word Dash and the leaderboard.

Who it’s for

  • Lawyers who read, negotiate or draft contracts in English.
  • Law students and people preparing for public-service exams.
  • Legal translators.
  • Law professors and legal English teachers.

Questions

Is Daniel a person? No. Daniel is an AI teacher, and we say so openly.

Is this legal advice? No. We practice English, not law: nothing here is legal advice.
