In January 2003, Victor Hart founds the Natural Language Institute in Brasília, teaching languages the way people actually learn them: by speaking from the first day, being corrected as they go, and reading and listening to things they care about. Over the next two decades the school teaches thousands of students from 13 countries, in person and online, and that method becomes the one Natural Fluency is built on.
In September 2023, Natural Fluency was born with a clear purpose: to make high-quality, low-cost language teaching available anywhere, built on a method that had already taken thousands of students to fluency.
With a team of young developers, mostly students and graduates from a university team, the project grew quickly. In a short time we gained dozens of subscribers in 13 countries, with new languages and features added every month — many of them suggested by users.
In December 2023, we were featured on an episode of Alura's Hipsters podcast, a well-known program about technology, programming, and startups. We discussed Natural Fluency's technical and educational aspects, the impact of technology in education, and the responsibility towards human teachers.
In the following months, our platform gained recognition among polyglots, leading us to speak at two prestigious events: the Polyglot Gathering in February - the largest international polyglot event - and a leading polyglot conference in September.
In October, we launched the beta version of our mobile app for Android and iOS, with the official release planned by the end of the year.
At the end of 2024, we prepared to intensify the gamification of the platform, so that studying a language would become as engaging as playing your favourite game.
On May 7, 2025, the Natural Fluency app launched on iOS and Android.
Natural Fluency was presented at the leading polyglot conferences in 2025 and 2026.

Born in Brazil to American parents, Victor Hart grew up in the United States, having lived in several countries like Niger, Burundi, Egypt, and Spain.
He graduated in Political Science from the prestigious Williams College in Massachusetts, but surprised everyone by trading a Wall Street career for a small farm in rural Brazil. There, initially without a car or electricity, he dedicated himself to mastering Portuguese to the level of a native speaker.
Years later, with deep knowledge and extensive experience in language learning, he founded the Natural Language Institute, using his highly personalized methodology. He continues to apply this approach to his own studies of Spanish and French, which he now speaks fluently, and German, which he started learning in 2024 using Natural Fluency.
Victor also has a Law degree from the University of Brasília (UnB) and works as an Auditor at the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), focusing on systems development. In addition to studying software development, he has 23 years of experience teaching languages, thousands of students who have achieved fluency through his method, and a distinct view of technology applied to education.
