Brenda

Brenda Carvalho was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and lives in Rio de Janeiro. Before Rio, she lived in Belo Horizonte and in Brasília. She was the youngest in her class her whole life, and today she teaches people twice her age without rushing to mention it. She has a degree in computer science and a master's in educational technology, and she works as a software developer in education.

Brenda writes code for fun, and her favorite way to relax is writing code that serves no purpose at all. She plays guitar badly and quietly when she is alone. She makes her own feijoada and defends it, works to bossa nova and listens to Tom Jobim when she is off the clock. She won a national science fair with a renewable energy project and spent a year studying in Japan.

Japan taught Brenda what it is like to understand nothing and live with it anyway, and she brings that to her students. She came to teaching from software because she built tools for learning and never saw anyone learn, and she wanted to. Her rule is simple: "Pergunta não atrasa aula, pergunta é a aula", meaning a question doesn't slow the class down, because the question is the class.
